Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA), Full Compass and Dennis Graham Associates have teamed up to present “Makin’ It In the Music Biz” – a special gathering of music professionals who will share insightful music industry knowledge with musicians of all ages. The event is FREE (including lunch) to all participants and takes place at Full Compass in Madison on Saturday, November 21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“While ‘Makin’ It In the Music Biz’ targets youth, musicians of all skill levels, ages and genres are invited to attend for free and learn tips and tricks from the music professionals,” said Tim Wurgler, WSMA program director.
“Makin’ It In the Music Biz” features notable music business professionals, such as guitarist Scotti Hill (Yamaha Artist and Skid Row guitarist), drummer Aaron Comess (Yamaha Artist and Spin Doctors drummer), Vic Thomas (Summerfest), Rokker (Maximum Ink), Roy Elkins (Broadjam), Beth Kille (songwriter/performer), Lauren Homburg (performer), Cathy Dethmers (High Noon Saloon), Kevin Peckham, Erika Munchka and Matt LaPlant (Full Compass), Rick Tvedt (Madison Area Music Association), Elizabeth Russell (attorney: copyright, trademark, arts), Veronica Heide (audiologist). The event includes a variety of tracks: guitar, drum and vocal clinics; ways to get your band noticed; composition and improvisation; preserving a musicians greatest asset – hearing; process of songwriting and recording; the legal side of the music business; small group and panel discussions, etc.
